Seasonal reminder for the birds

Ask not what needs adjusting in your bird feed; ask which company adjusts it for you. (See below.)

A Great Time to Fall for Birds

Fall migration season is a great time for watching for new and unusual birds as they leave the north, continuing to follow the food in warmer climates. In some cases, their destination is right here in central Ontario, like northern juncos, for instance, whose arrival is the first sign that cold temperatures are on their way, just as their departure in late early spring reassures us that winter is in fact, officially over. Millions of birds will be passing through so it’s as important as ever to keep feeders filled and regularly cleaned.

Is your bird seed well-adjusted?

Millcreek bird food blend actually takes care of seasonal feeding needs for us, changing the supply to include more peanuts and sunflower seeds – high energy foods that birds need to keep body temperatures up as the weather gets colder. Put Seasons Woodland on your bird feeder shopping list and just fill ‘er up! In spring the company will make new adjustments

Here’s how Millcreek explains it:

Each season, we combine dozens of different ingredients to provide the birds with the best possible nutrition available. The winter blend is high in carbohydrates to keep birds warm. The spring formulation is high in protein for muscle development and stamina (migration, breeding & food collection for their young). It contains fruit for migratory fruit eating birds. It contains oyster shell to help digestion and we add needed calcium for egg production. Micronized ingredients are added to convert the sugars and make these ingredients digestible. Summer blend accommodate birds that stay for the summer.

How cool is that? The birds will thank you for the extra boost needed for their mighty flights.

Because you (or they) deserve it

For those who love birds or those who are new to bird feeding, setting up the perfect feeding station can be frustrating because we have to patiently learn by trial and error. We finally realize that a “proper” station is not just a dream we hope will come true, but a goal to be realized. It will have everything a bird needs: a seed tray for Jays, nyger feeders for goldfinches, nectar for the hummingbirds, jelly for the orioles, suet for the woodpeckers and a general feeder that hosts chickadees, cardinals, indigo buntings, and oh, bestill our hearts!

There’s no better time for realizing this dream because if you delay and decide to commit as a Christmas gift for yourself (or someone else), December may be too late to get a pole into the frozen ground.

Think about it, but don’t wait too long. We have all of the elements needed (included baffles to keep the squirrels out) as well a lot of helpful advice to put your trial and error days behind you.

The hummingbirds get the last word

Don’t take your hummingbird feeders down yet. Keep them clean and refreshed with new nectar, and even after you’re certain you’ve seen the last one, wait two more weeks.

Why?

Because: stragglers.

Every family’s got some and it seems even hummingbirds can lose track of time. ~
