It might seem like an odd time of year to be talking about birdhouses, but it’s actually a great time to put one up! The birds can get used to a new house now before nesting starts again in the spring. Birds might also use them to roost and for shelter throughout the colder months, so now is also a good time to clean out any birdhouses you may have already before the snow comes.
We just got some new birdhouses in from Salt Box Shoppe. A woman in Kincardine Ontario makes these houses from recycled materials like tin, wood, door knobs and even silverware! These houses are very unique and you may need to unscrew a wall to clean, but they are still very functional for the birds.
We also have some locally made birdhouses for chickadees, wrens, nuthatches and bluebirds. If you’d like to build your own, we have kits for all ages. To prevent predators from attacking nests, we carry guards you can put over the entrances to stop them from chewing and getting inside, and baffles to keep them from climbing up to the houses. Stop by soon and check out the selection!
